fox fairy
vulpes mediocris
Beast
These creatures are very rare and reclusive. During the medieval times these creatures were much more social and plentiful especially in european and nordic regions. Today there are still a large number of them but they choose to live in secluded and hidden communities with others of their kind in order to stay safe. These sprites, like many others, love to help and comfort those in need. Whether that be with resources, knowledge, or guidance. They started to seclude themselves due to people seeking them out and taking advantage of their powers. These sprites do not need much sustenance but they do enjoy scavenging for berries and playing and drinking from brooks and streams. They typically live from 10 to 15 thousand years and maintain their youthful appearance through most of their life. These creatures are very playful and have a trilling/chirping and purring noises as ways of communication. In very rare cases a sprite will connect with a human it is helping on a deep level and form a bond with them. But, for the most part they travel the world helping those in need appearing and disappearing without a trace. In order to be visited you must be in sincere and pure need, such as the homeless or struggling parents or children. Meeting a fox fae is a mystifying experience, and in many cases people will not remember their encounter. As you are approached the fairy will bow to you offering its head and once you pet in between its eyes the fox will know exactly what you need and respond accordingly. If you need comfort the fox will stay until it is not needed anymore, if you need a resource then the fox will disappear without a trace leaving behind what you need.
