Game Gatherer
Ludum colligens
Reptilian
A small, stout reptilian creature, about two feet tall, with dark scales and a colorful, unreadable face, the Game Gatherer sneaks around people’s homes, hiding beneath desks and inside cabinets looking for old video games to take by storing in its pouch drive, and then teleports back to it’s cave. It doesn’t play the games, nor does it know how, it simply feels the need to hoard as many as possible to fill it’s home with its treasure. Due to the supernatural nature of the Game Gatherer, when it steals a copy of an old game, parts of the source code disappear from the developers, causing the lack of preservation of old games in both physical and digital formats. Occasionally, it will manifest a remastered or remade replacement to try to cover its tracks, but since it can’t play the originals, it often gets things wrong or leaves parts out. Despite all this, the Game Gatherer is not malicious, it just follows its instincts.
The Game Gatherer does not need to eat, and it is unclear if it even has a mouth. It came into being with the popularity of home gaming consoles, and its need for games has just gotten stronger as the years go by. It is the only one of its kind, and is functionally immortal as long as physical games exist for it to take. You can try to keep it away by playing your old games or keeping them safe on a shelf, as it tries not to take things that people will notice if they go missing.
